Jia Hu, Ph.D., A.M. ASCE, M.IEEE
Jia Hu works as a ZhongTe Distinguished Chair in Cooperative Automation in the College of Transportation Engineering at Tongji University. Before joining Tongji, he was a research associate at the Federal Highway Administration, USA (FHWA). He graduated with a Ph.D. degree from the University of Virginia. He received his Master degree in transportation engineering from the North Carolina State University. He holds a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Zhejiang University.
Dr. Hu is a recipient of Best Paper Award from the TRB Air Quality Committee, Best Scientific Paper-Americas Award from the ITS World Congress 2016, Research Associateship Award from the NAS, and Academic Excellence Award from the University of Virginia.
He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transaction on Intelligent Vehicle, American Society of Civil Engineers Journal of Transportation Engineering, an assistant editor of the Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, an associate editor for IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium since 2018, associate editor for IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference since 2019, and an advisory editorial board member for the Transportation Research Part C. Furthermore, he is a member of TRB Vehicle Highway Automation Committee, Freeway Operation Committee and Simulation subcommittee of Traffic Signal Systems Committee, and a member of CAV Impact Committee and Artificial Intelligence Committee of ASCE Transportation and Development Institute. He is also former Chair of Vehicle Automation and Connectivity Committee of the WTC and a former member of Advanced Technologies Committee of ASCE Transportation and Development Institute.
Dr. Hu has published over 100 journal and conference papers in the area of vehicle automation, transportation system operations and managements, and intelligent transportation system. His research interests include connected and automated vehicles, microscopic simulation model application, system optimization, and transportation energy efficiency.
