His main research interests cover multi-dimensional medical ultrasound imaging, medical data mining and artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis, cross-modal medical robots, brain-like reasoning and brain-computer interface, etc. He has presided over one task under a major 2030 AI project of the Ministry of Science and Technology (excellent in acceptance evaluation, ranking top 5%), six projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (including two Key Special Program ), and directed or participated in more than 20 other projects of various types, with the total funding under his personal responsibility exceeding 30 million RMB.
He has published more than 200 papers, including over 30 papers in IEEE/ACM Transactions, more than 160 SCI-indexed papers (including accepted manuscripts), and over 190 papers indexed by the three major citation databases. He has been granted or published more than 70 patents and 5 software copyrights. His research has received more than 8,000 Google Scholar citations with an H-index of 50, and he has been selected as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University for consecutive years.
He won the First Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award (2012). He was selected into the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University (MOE, 2010), Distinguished Professor of the Shaanxi Hundred-Talent Program (2016), and recipient of the Outstanding Young Scientist Fund of Shaanxi Province (2018).
He currently serves as a Standing Member of the Technical Committee on Robot Intelligence, Chinese Association of Automation (CAA), and a Member of the Instrument Development Special Committee, Chinese Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering. He is invited to concurrently act as an Expert Advisor for Smart Healthcare at Shanghai AI Laboratory (Pujiang Laboratory) (2023–present) and a Distinguished Expert at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (2023–present). He also previously served as a Big Data Expert Advisor at Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (2017–2019).
He is currently an Associate Editor of Pattern Recognition and Neurocomputing (top-tier AI journals), a Founding Editorial Board Member of Digital Medicine and Health (Chinese Medical Association), and a Guest Editor-in-Chief of several international SCI journals including Mathematical Biosciences and Engineering (a journal of the American Mathematical Society).
