Fabio Marchesoni: A former graduate of the University of Pisa (Italy, 1983; advisor Prof. G. Parisi), he specialized in diverse topics of non-equilibrium statistical physics including stochastic processes, stochastic resonance, Brownian motors, physical acoustics and soliton statistics. He is co-founder of the VIRGO project, the French-Italian collaboration for the interferometric detection of gravitational waves; he is an affiliated scientist of RIKEN (Japan), KIAS (South Korea) and TONGJI University (Shanghai, China) as an expert in biology inspired nano-technology.

                                                                                                                                  
Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS, 2003), of the Institute of Physics (IoP, 2004) and of the American Association for Advancement of Science, (AAAS, 2008), he has been named RIKEN Eminent Scientist (2002) and Honorary Professor at the University of Loughborough (UK, 2007) and HuaQiao (China, 2018). In 2006, he won the von Humboldt prize (Germany), in 2008 received a Knighthood from the President of Italy for his scientific achievements, and in 2011 was elected member of the European Academy. As a member of the Ligo-Virgo collaboration, he shared the Special Breakthrough Prize and the Gruber Prize in cosmology of year 2016.


A retired professor from the University of Camerino (Italy), he is presently professor of physics at Tongji University (Shanghai, China, 2016-2019), and Director of the Int’l School of Statistical Physics at the E. Majorana Center (Erice, Sicily, Italy). 

 

He has been Visiting professor at the University of Illinois (1996-1997), University of Michigan (1998-1999), Boston University (2009), Ohio University (2007, 2010, 2012, 2014), and Augsburg University (2007-to date).

 

Bibliometric data: author of over 550 publications in peer-reviewed journal, with a total of over 65,000 cites (h>90) on WoS and 100,000 cites (h>115) on Google Scholar.
